Thomas Gainsborough was a famous portrait painter of the 18th century. His portraits of the rich and famous are considered some of the world’s finest. They hang in major art galleries all around the globe.
Gainsborough was fond of dogs and he often included them in his oil paintings. He aimed, it is said, to represent the special relationship between dogs and humans.
